London Throwdown

What an amazing weekend. The London Throwdown took place at Brunel Indoor Athletics Track over the past couple of days and CrossFit Leeds were well represented in this inaugral event in the CrossFit calendar.

I would like to express how proud I am of everyone at CrossFit Leeds who has got involved with this event;

From all those that got involved with the qualifying workouts back in November, which was most of our members, as we programmed the workouts as part of our classes (75 thrusters, burpees and pull ups anyone?).

Everyone who supported us and provided added motivation over the weekend, whether that be in person or via online media, all the support was greatly received and really helped make a difference. Special thanks to Luke, Ferino, Emma, Kelly, Gary, John, the lovely Caitlyn, and Smudge (who unfortunately had to pull out of competing on Friday due to injury. Sure he'll be back stronger than ever for the CrossFit Games Open) for making the journey down to London to cheer us on.

BullDog Gear for their support and provision of kit for all our athletes.

And massive respect and congratulations to all our competitors who gave it everything all weekend. There were so many inspiring performances it was a pleasure to watch and compete alongside all of you. Special mention to Niki Simpson who put out consistently strong performances all weekend, and was only bested by Sam Briggs, earning herself a podium finish against the top female athletes from across Europe. Niki is featured on the CrossFit Games website as one of the athletes to look out for at the 2012 Reebok CrossFit Games.

Here's how the CrossFit Leeds athletes got on:

Rosie Plowman - 20th place

Sam Henderson - 12th place

CrossFit Leeds Team - Mike Rawlinson, Tristan Dickson, Carl Pullan, Chloe Barrett, Sarah Stewart - 7th place

Becky Hughes, who competed for CrossFit West Yorkshire - 28th place

We have an amazing group of people training at our gym, whether training to compete in CrossFit events or simply competing against yourself week in week out to better yourself and your fitness, you all create a positive training atmosphere and make turning up at the box such an enjoyable experience every day.


Great to see Tom, Aaron, Lucy, Martin, Simon and Andrea organising and heading out to Roundhay Park on Sunday for hill sprints. They'll be on again this Sunday for all who want to get involved.

It is the SICFIT London Throwdown this weekend and we have 10 CrossFit Leeds members heading down to The Brunel Indoor Athletics Track to compete and represent CrossFit Leeds in what looks to be one of the biggest competitions the UK has ever hosted. The friendly guys at Bulldog Gear, who are providing much of the equipment for the event, are sponsoring our athletes and are kindly providing us with some great kit and sports massages over the weekend. Head on over and like their Facebook Page and show some support for a UK based quality equipment supplier that are supporting our members.

Please remember the gym will be closed tomorrow evening and Saturday morning. Kettlebell Class from 12-1pm and Open Gym 1-2pm are on as usual tomorrow.
